Right now he is one of the keepers of the “secrets” of Luna Rossa, whose launch is scheduled for Oct. 2. He is Martin Fisher, Luna Rossa’s design coordinator as well as one of the leading international experts on foil and fluid dynamics. Before we interviewed him, we had the pleasure of witnessing a quick exchange between him and Xabi Fernandez, the Spanish Olympic medalist and Volvo Ocean Race veteran who will be part of Ineos Team Uk: “Xabi, so then you let me know what your boat will be like?” “Sure as hell, I’ll write you Martin count on it.” General laughter.
Irony aside, as is obvious in a very delicate phase of this long America’s Cup campaign there are few things that can be revealed, but something interesting Fischer told us anyway: “The class rule is young and very open, that’s why very different boats are coming out. We are now processing data on the opponents.” And again, “We have been working on the average wave and wind data of the race course, these will influence the design of the boats. And as a designer I can say it’s a very complicated job, these are very complicated boats.”
