There is none, the dear old motto “Italians do it better” is as relevant as ever, even in boating. In fact, the European Yacht of the Year awards were presented this weekend. Well, as many as two out of five went to boats from our home.
Triumphing in the Luxury Cruiser category was the Grand Soleil 46 LC, which was unveiled just in Dusseldorf last year. Marco Lostuzzi’s design (and Nauta’s design) hit the mark: a high-performance hull combined with top-notch amenities make it an atypical blue water that is appealing in Europe as well as overseas.
Instead, it is the Solaris 50 that takes home the title of Performance Cruiser of the Year. Javier Soto Acebal and the Aquileia shipyard don’t let up: a winning couple doesn’t change, and while the new 47 has just been unveiled, the 50 confirms that the decision to opt for a high-performance hull, combined with a minimalist and functional distribution of deck space, was a winning one.
In the other categories, prizes went to theHanse 315 (Family Cruiser) perfect confirmation of the success that natantons are now enjoying worldwide, the Dragonfly 25 (Multihulls category), the modern trimaran characterized by thin hulls with inverted bows, and finally the Quant 23 (Special Yachts), the latest example of foils applied to dinghies.

In 1979 a shipyard was born that was destined to carve its name in the history of yachting: it was X-Yachts, of which the legendary X-79 became the standard-bearer. An excellent first design, signed Jeppesen, the small 7.9-meter would be
