Big news in the market for dinghies and small keelboats: Negri Nautica is the new RS Sailing distributor for Italy, and not only as we will tell you. RS Sailing is to date one of the world’s leading manufacturers for the dinghy or small keelboat segment. It has in its range 19 models suitable somewhat for all ages and needs: ranging from boats designed for sailing school, such as the RS Venture, the Quest or the Neo, to boats suitable for the racing world or simply for those seeking higher performance, such as the RS 21, The RS Aero (in recent years considered an antagonist of the Laser), or the RS 400, just to name a few models. We heard from Pietro Negri of Negri Nautica to get the terms of this market transaction.
“Let’s start far back, the decision with RS has been matured for some time since we have been observing each other for many years, but since we Lasers have never been “allowed” to do so, Laser sees RS as one of the main competitors. Although we had always had very good relations with RS, with whom we always communicated, it had never been possible to make progress. As a result of the Laser “affair” (which saw after ups and downs the entry of new manufacturer shipyards ed.) a few things changed, RS needed in the meantime a greater presence in Italy that could then also support it in Southeast European countries. We will also become distributors for other countries, such as Greece, Croatia and Slovenia, Malta or Cyprus” Negri explained.
The RS range was one of the reasons that convinced Negri Nautica to take this step. “RS will guarantee us a range in full development , with many models and many new features, they look a bit like the Laser of 15 years ago. The relationship with Laser will end, partly because we ended up in the middle of a battle (the one over the production of Lasers ed.) that was damaging to us, and it is vital for us to stay in the drift world. We will continue to sell Ilca-approved Lasers, which it would be more correct to call ILCA, and specifically those from the Ovington shipyard, so we will continue to follow in the classroom. To this we will then add the RS boat range, the Open Bic, and also the youth kite class. Negri Nautica has always been in the market for dinghies and monotypes with a range of products that covered various needs, and we are continuing in this philosophy. RS is a very organized shipyard with a very wide range, partly because they never leave their customers on the street and keep boats in production that may not sell a lot but they keep it close to the customers who have them. The core of this range is made up of the Quest, the Zest, the Aero, RS 21, the Feva, the RS 500 and the Venture. Now the Aero is starting as a class in Italy, there are 5 clubs that are carrying out this project that will start doing youth activities with this boat. We already have the whole range in stock and on display“. Negri concluded.
