TheVerbano Vele d’Epoca Association for the 2019-2020 season offers the Classic and Vintage Wooden Boat Restoration Course. The course will take place at the association’s shipyard located on Lake Maggiore and will offer the step-by-step restoration of a 24-ft Marconi sloop model Light Crest built in 1958 in mahogany planking and designed by renowned naval architect German Frers.
All topics from historical research to the study of the type of interventions to practical steps in the field will be covered. The course will be spread over 12 weekends during which participants, under the guidance of an experienced shipwright, will be able to work directly on the boat and become familiar with the basic tools and techniques for tackling a restoration.
No special skills or knowledge of tool material is required, just good will and a desire to learn!!! Places are limited to 8 to give all enrollees a chance to learn by working directly on the hull on boat parts.
Upon completion of the restoration, the boat will remain moored on Lake Maggiore, and the trainees will be able to use it for the entire season both for pleasure and for organized events on the lake.
