It is somewhat the class of discord, the Olympic keelboat offshore boat that will debut (barring resounding denials) in Paris 2024 replacing the Finn. A class strongly desired by the French federation, which is counting in its home waters on getting a more than likely medal. But Italy on the topic of offshore sailing may also have a lot to say. World Sailing meanwhile has officially announced that the 2020 world championship of the class will be held in Malta in October 2020, and the much-discussed L30 will be used as the boat (find out HERE). The World Cup qualifying regatta will be held in Europe by June 2020, with an entry fee ranging from 6,000 to 8,000 euros plus VAT. The Italian Federation. The Italian Sailing Federation immediately took action to organize the national activity and select interested potential sailors. Below is the official FIV communiqué and how to apply if you would like to try your hand at it.
THE FIV STATEMENT
“The International Federation (World Sailing) has issued official communications regarding the 2020 World Championship of the new Olympic discipline “mixed keelboat doubles.”
This discipline will feature in the format of the Paris/Marseille 2024 Olympic Games.
The pathway to participate in the 2020 World Cup includes selections to be held in a Western European country to identify one crew per nation to officially represent their national colors at the World Cup to be held in Malta from October 10 to 22, 2020.
Twenty crews will be admitted, representing as many countries; Malta, the organizing country, will have one crew by right. These crews will be mixed (one man and one woman) and will race on L30 Class boats provided by the Organizers.
The Italian Sailing Federation naturally intends to participate in the Worlds Selections by sending its own crew to represent the Italian colors
For this purpose, the Federation will then hold an internal selection among those interested in participating in the pre-World 2020 selection (Qualification Events) of this new Olympic discipline.
Those interested in participating in the internal selection should, through their home Circle, signal this participatory intention to the F.I.V.
