The first Dehler 34 was launched 30 years ago, and because of its modern features (we could call it the first of the performance cruisers) it was produced in 1,300 units. The German shipyard celebrates its 30th anniversary with the construction of the new model (which follows the one produced from 2002 to 2009, signed Simonis / Voogd).
VERSATILITY THE KEY WORD
The design is by Judel & Vrolijk, and the first examples of the revamped 34-footer will see the light of day in August. Karl Dehler, Dehler’s chief developer, explains the concept behind the boat, “The new Dehler 34 was developed to be a luxury performance cruiser, with significant roominess, standing height, and tank capacity. However, sportier sailors can equip the 34′ with everything, but everything, that can boost performance. The in-house developed “Carbon Cage” structure, with which we reinforce every standard hull, helps simplify every transformation.” Therefore, the key word is “versatility.”
EXTERIOR
The nearly vertical foredeck combined with the short overhangs at the stern form a long waterline so as to maximize performance. The exterior design features clean, sporty lines in keeping with the modern look of larger Dehler models. Two flat side windows ending in a point give the boat a sleek look by spotlighting the interior. The wide, flat cockpit adds to the sporty character.
INTERIOR
The interiors include two large cabins and a convenient room for service use, which is equipped with the “Uni Door” (Dehler’s trademark), or a door that separates three spaces, thus ensuring maximum privacy with minimum clutter. The salon has two longitudinal sofas with sufficient storage space, a large L-shaped kitchen and a chart table. Round shapes predominate and combined with modern lines. In the bow, the owner can choose between two layout variations. As standard, the Dehler 34 has an enclosed bow with a door; the option is to have the bulkhead open, which creates more depth. For those who want to decrease the weight of the boat, there is the possibility of lightening the cabin furniture in the bow and stern.
YOU ARM IT AS YOU WISH
Thenew Dehler 34also impresses with the many variants to choose from: as standard, the Dehler 34 has an aluminum rig with sail area (mainsail and jib) of 65 m². In addition, Dehler offers higher aluminum or carbon equipment for greater performance. At 17.02 m, the carbon mast is 73 cm taller than the standard rig and gives space for a sail area of 71 m². Added to this are a number of optional extras, such as a swim platform and fixed bowsprit.
THREE KEEL OPTIONS
Three keel variants are also available: a T-shaped racing keel with a draft of 2.10 m and two L-shaped keels with 1.95 m and 1.55 m draft. The boat is steered with a tiller or, alternatively, a double wheel rudder. An 18 PS (13.3kW) Volvo Penta with Saildrive transmission is fitted as standard. For the Italian market it comes with a full “ready to sail” set-up like the other models, and a “ready to race” has also been added for this 34. The two versions are priced at €127,610 (fast cruiser) and €140,980 (competition), respectively. www.nautigamma.com
