Few shipyards in the world can count on a legion of enthusiasts as enamored as England’s Cornish Crabbers, which is preparing to launch a new 24-footer next year that smacks of the olden days, taking us back to the days of boats of yesteryear with its classic lines, a high bow and a slightly contrary stern.
The Cornish Crabber 24 MKV is characterized precisely by its old-fashioned lines, with a long keel but also … liftable drift (it goes from a draft of 1.40 meters to about 70 cantimeters). This is the “modern” version of one of the shipyard’s great classics, which originated in the early 1980s and saw its first redesign during the 1990s. Overall length 8.60 meters (but hull length is 7.32 meters), it has a maximum beam of 2.66 meters.
All maneuvering is deferred to the six winches in the cockpit (the two dedicated to the halyards are located to the side of the companionway), which as was once the case is really the only real livable space on deck. The deckhouse has rather pronounced shapes-a solution that has almost disappeared today (in favor of more prominent beams) and that provides interior heights that are difficult to achieve on a boat of this size. Helm? Obviously by bar!
A deckhouse that allows you to stand square, while also having a true kitchen area and a separate bathroom. Basically, the Cornish Crabber 24 MKV provides a double berth in the bow, to which two additional berths can be added in the saloon. In the stern we find two storage spaces, one of which can convert into an additional guard berth. The expected launch price is £64,950, about 78,000 euros.
