Come on Marco! Steps in nomination for Rolex World Sailor of the Year

The news was in the air, and now we have had confirmation, Marco Gradoni is nominated for the prestigious Rolex World Sailor of the Year, the award put up for grabs by World Sailing, the international sailing federation, which each year honors the best athletes who have distinguished themselves on international race courses, among Olympic classes, in the Ocean and in youth sailing.

Marco Gradoni, an athlete of the Roman sailing club “Tognazzi Marine Village,” won the world title in the Optimist youth class three times in a row, the only one in the world to have succeeded in this feat. Gradoni’s name appears alongside those of Frenchman Antoine Albeau, world champion of the PWA World Tour Slalom, Australians Mat Belcher and Will Ryan,2019 winners of the Hempel World Cup Series world and European champions in the 470 double, and Frenchman Francis Joyon, winner of the Route du Rhum.
In the women’s field, there are three nominations: Frenchwoman Delphine Cousin Questel, winner of the PWA World Tour Slalom World, Spain’s Violeta del Reino, world champion in 2019 at the Hansa 303 Para World Sailing Championships, and Anne-Marie Rindom (DEN) world and European champion in the Laser Radial Olympic class in 2019.
The winners will be announced on October 29 at the World Sailing Awards Ceremony in Bermuda.
