Carbon superyachts: the essential luxury of Y Yachts boats

With his Y Yachts, Michael Schmidt wants to produce boats that are large and luxurious, but free of all the superficialities and complications that often involve this segment. Former founder of the Hanse shipyard, which he sold in 2011, with this new venture that began with the first boat produced in 2015 he is aiming for a very specific clientele.

Making superboats “simple”

The idea behind the philosophy of Y Yachts stems from the need of Michael Schmidt himself, who could not find a boat to suit his wishes and decided to build it himself. Too complicated, in his opinion, the superyachts on the market up to that time, so he makes the decision to make a simple boat without losing the taste of sailing and the luxury of a big boat. All rigging and winches are located near the helmsman, and all boats have a self-tacking jib. Y Yachts’ boats can be steered with ease even with a small crew, think that they even managed to change the minds of three motor yacht owners by making them become Y Yachts owners.

Boats with low weight but all the amenities

All of the yard’s boats are made of carbon composite in the modern factory in Greifswald, Germany. Reducing the boats to theessentials, while not sacrificing all amenities, and using a material such as carbon allow the yard’s yachts to weigh several hundred kilograms less than yachts produced under conventional construction. Even in unfavorable weather conditions, such as light winds, these boats will manage to sail without major problems.
