After the Key West Week victory, the positive streak of results for Calvi Network, Carlo Alberini’s J/70, continues: the Romagna native took an excellent silver at Bacardi Miami Sailing Week 2016, behind the Mexicans of Flojito y Cooperando. Taking to the water with only a one-point margin over Calvi Network, Julian Fernandez Neckelmann’s world champions, the protagonists of a series devoid of the slightest flaw, made the penultimate race their own, taking victory with one race to spare.
BETTER THAN IN 2015
For its part, Carlo Alberini’s crew encountered unforeseen difficulties in both starts on the last day and ended its participation in second place ahead of Relative Obscurity (Duncan-Blackwell, 2-1), a result that improves on the third obtained in 2015. “Congratulations to Julian Fernandez and his crew: they sailed very well, taking an absolutely deserved victory. – emphasized Carlo Alberini on the sidelines of the awards ceremony held at the Bacardi village located in Kennedy Park – As for us, we experienced a bad day, finding ourselves blocked by a team that started OCS at the first race and in turn finishing over the line early at the start of the second race. We are sorry we were not able to express ourselves at the levels we are comfortable with, but setbacks are part of the game. Still, it was a very useful week from a technical point of view, characterized by rather challenging weather conditions.”
COURSE OVER MONACO
In Miami waters, where the fleet consisted of some 40 crews, aboard Calvi Network sailed Carlo Alberini (owner-driver), Branko Brcin (tactician), Karlo Hmeljak (mainsman) and Sergio Blosi (trimmer/commander). Team activities were as always coordinated by coach Irene Bezzi. Bidding farewell to Miami, the Lightbay Sailing Team is preparing to return to Europe where, in a couple of weeks, it will be at the start of the first leg of the Alcatel Onetouch Italian Trophy, scheduled to take place in Monaco in early April.
