Still don’t know what to do on the Nov. 1 bridge? Why not take advantage of it to enjoy a week-long boating vacation at the best time to charter, when it costs less and the supply is greater. If you then choose one of the Mediterranean areas, and there are many of them, where the climate is God-kissed and the summer hardly ever ends, then you are all set; and last but not least, you will really sail away from the crowds and the daily grind. Forget the tourist sieges typical of the summer season.
We opened our charter offer comparison site, with thousands of boats, skippered and unskippered, and began typing in all the places we would like to go in the week beginning Saturday, October 29: the only stipulation, the price, between 650 and 900 euros. As in: instead of spending 700 euros to over a thousand on an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 plus (keep the old smartphone), have a nice week on a boat. These are our five choices.
1. THE COSTA SMERALDA AS YOU’VE NEVER SEEN IT BEFORE
Starting from the well-equipped Marina di Portisco, you can venture into the crystal-clear waters of the Emerald Coast. Don’t turn up your nose: this is not the same Costa Smeralda you are used to in the summer, made up of droves of snobby tourists and scarf-wearing viveurs. In the off-season everything changes, to the point that it feels like a completely different place, almost wild in places. If you rent a Bavaria 33 Cruiser (2 cabins, sleeps six) it will cost you, for the whole week, 896 euros.

2. THE DISCREET CHARM OF DALMATIA
Croatia, off-season, also brings joys. All the guidebooks say this and they are right: the area of Sibenik, then, is beautiful. Beginning with the Dalmatian town itself, which offers a splendid historic center that bears witness to a glorious past. Mandalina Marina is an excellent starting point for the Kornati Islands-where you will feel, especially now, that time has stood still-and “must-sees” such as Zadar, PrimoÅ¡ten, Trogir or Split. For 689 euros you will rent for a week a solid Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 35, equipped with three double cabins and all the amenities.

3. FEELING LIKE IN “MEDITERRANEAN”
Why not take a week among the Greek islands of the Dodecanese, just a few miles off the Turkish coast, among archaeological sites, wilderness and crystal clear waters? Kos, Kà lymnos, Léros, Kà rpathos, Kastellòrizo (where they shot the Oscar-winning film Mediterraneo). We chose Kos Marina as our starting point, and an accessorized Oceanis 34 (3 cabins and 8 beds) as our boat: the cost? 900 euros.

4. BALEARICS MON AMOUR
The further away from the tourist season, the more Ibiza takes on the appearance of a real island and not a seaside disco and the better it suits the needs of sailors. The prices, then, are really advantageous. We have selected for you a “classic,” namely a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 36i (3 cabins, 8 beds), located at Club NÃ utic San Antonio in Sant Antoni de Portmany: 700 euro (30% off list price) and off for a week in the beautiful waters of the Balearic Islands, perhaps reaching nearby Formentera and Majorca!

5. THE LONG SICILIAN SUMMER
In Palermo they call it autumn, in the rest of Italy it is called summer. Mild temperatures, crystal waters, breathtaking scenery, mouthwatering cuisine. Sicily is all this and much more. The November 1 bridge is a good time to take advantage of it: our choice was a Dufour 310 Grand Large (2 cabins, sleeps 6) departing from La Cala in the Sicilian capital. The cost, net of a nice 25% discount on the rental price, is 900 euros.
