Shaun Carkeek is one of the “gurus” in modern sport boat design, his designs often have sophisticated and innovative shapes, and we could not pass up the opportunity to interview him at the Genoa Boat Show. We did so at the Mylius booth, and our meeting there is no coincidence, Carkeek in fact is the designer of the new Mylius 72 of which more details will be revealed soon. We spoke with him about the new boat, described by the South African designer as “a really interesting opportunity, because we are going to bring something new to the market, with high-level naval architecture combined with state-of-the-art engineering to design,” he said about the new Mylius 72. Shaun Carkeek is also working with another Italian excellence, Persico Marine, on the F70 foiler, another cutting-edge boat that aims to bring some of the concepts of the America’s Cup to a boat that can have wider use in the sailing public. We talked about this and more in our interview.
