We often find ourselves taking stock of what has been, of the new things we have just seen at the shows or on the docks. Today we are changing the game. We sat down at the editorial desk and tried to imagine, data and experience in hand, what might change in the boating world in the next twelve months. Thus was born a small vademecum in ten words: from A for Alliances to R for Reputation. After the first seven installments (links can be found at the bottom of the article), today we are talking about Marinity.
MARINITY.
It is time to dispel a myth still circulating in the dock: it is not true that the boats of yesteryear were more marine than those of today. It has changed, rather, the way we navigate. Modern hulls, with their flat lines, especially toward the stern, lend themselves to the best of load-bearing gaits, but that does not mean they sail poorly upwind. Indeed!
Their sharp bows cleave the wave well, and the lightness of modern materials has made sailing more “natural.” Not to mention the edge, that “phenomenon” from the world of ocean racing boats and which, when well exploited, really ensures a different and comfortable sailing experience.
