Installing a desalinator aboard one’s boat is a choice that more and more boat owners are making, even those with small boats. This is because the latest generation of watermakers are getting smaller, lighter, and smarter. Perfect for installation on boats of any size, such as the three models we have selected.
Desalinator to install in boat: the 3 models to choose from
Boat watermaker – Osmosea’s lightweight range
The range of desalinators produced by Osmosea includes very light models, the light est and smallest size, New 12 S25 and ES25, goes up to producing 25 liters/hour of fresh water, about 600 liters per day. If you have large boats and lots of guests on board, or simply have different needs, Osmosea has some models that with all-too-small dimensions produce up to 300 liters/hour! But how do these desalinators work? The principle behind their operation isreverse osmosis, a process used for many years now on Osmosea models. This process makes it possible to recover much of the energy used in desalination, reaching energy savings of up to 80 percent compared to a “standard” process. Because of its low-energy operation, Osmosea desalinators are therefore perfect for installation on small boats. Another interesting detail? They don’t need a generator to run; service batteries are enough!
Watermaker in the boat – The Little Zen of Schenker Watermakers
Schenker Water makers with its Zen watermakers comes to the rescue of those who have space problems on board and want a watermaker that does not weigh down the boat. The range is varied and very complete: it goes from the
Zen 30
, which produces 30 l/h with a weight of just 19 kg and a consumption of 110 watts, to the
Zen 150
which at 61 kg produces up to 150 l/h while consuming 600 watts. Desalinators in the Zen range consume up to 80 percent less thanks to theEnergy Recovery System, which amplifies pump pressure and recovers all hydraulic energy from the membranes. Systems installed by Schenker Watermakers are controllable via remote panel, which is also available in a touch screen version.
Watermaker in the boat – HP Watermakers’ smart integration
Among the desalinators produced by Lombard HP Watermakers, the SC series stands out. This line can produce up to 440 liters of fresh water per hour thanks to four osmotic membranes. Automation is the strong point of HP-brand desalinators, especially if you choose the Rp Tronic and the interface Part-Net. With these options we will have automatic pressure regulation and compatibility with virtually all interfaces using the NMEA 2000 standard (Garmin, Raymarine, Navico, etc.). The application to command thedesalination plant will appear within the multifunction display already installed on board, with no need for additional screens and buttons.
