The prestigious Cruising World magazine published at the U.S. Sailboat Show in Annapolis its list of nominations for the Boat of the Year 2016 (Boat of the Year). Which one is your favorite? In this first installment we look at midsize cruisers and performance cruisers, in the next one we will look in detail at Full Size Cruisers (above and below 50 feet) and catamarans (however mentioned in the list at the bottom).
MIDSIZE CRUISERS (MEDIUM LENGTH, CRUISING)
Dufour 350 GL – At less than two meters long, the Dufour 350 Grand Large is the third model in the GL range launched by the French shipyard in the interesting and hard-fought 10-meter range in less than a year. Another vessel (like the 310 GL), ideal for those who do not feel like getting a boat license but want to sail. Length. 10.28 m; width. 3.54 m; disl. 5,674 kg.
Dufour 382 GL – The styling of the 382 GL features numerous windows, a large cockpit and a very wide aft platform, as modern styles “dictate.” Hull, appendages and sail plan once again bear the all-Italian signature of Umberto Felci, now the daddy of all the French shipyard’s latest models. Length. 11.23 m; width. 3.85 m, disl. 7,060 kg
Hanse 315 – The new Hanse 315 is designed to cater primarily to three types of owners: those new to sailing, young families, or seniors. Therefore, it presents numerous solutions that can make browsing quiet and safe. Length. 9.62; width. 3.35; disl. 4,700 kg
Marlow Hunter 31 – The latest offshore cruising model in the wake of the 40- and 37-footers, following American Hunter’s change of course after its acquisition by David Marlow: the build quality of these boats has risen considerably. The cockpit is spacious and the sail plan important. Length. 9.86 m; width. 3.61 m; disk. 5,376 kg
PERFORMANCE CRUISER (I CRUISE-REGATTA)
Dehler 46 – Designed with dual wheelhouses, the new Dehler 46 reiterates some of the winning choices we had already seen aboard the 38, such as the soft lines of the deckhouse, the wide maximum beam that stays that way all the way to the stern, and the possibility of arming the boat either for cruising use or, for sportier owners, with a more racer look. Length. 14, 40 m; width. 4.35 m; disl. 10,700 kg
Grand Soleil 43 – The Grand Soleil 43 is the brainchild of Claudio Maletto. Equipped with a generous sail area, it was born to grind out good racing performance (sail area is 96 square meters). Length. 13.25 m; wd. 4.00 m; disl. 9,100 kg.
Italia Yachts 13.98 – Solidity, grit, obsessive attention to detail: here is a fourteen-footer capable of pleasing those who want to sail long distances as well as those who prefer racing. All born in our “home.” Technology and functionality are ahead of everything, combined with water lines that can take it to compete in racing as well. Ease of conduct is another of its strengths. Length. 14.3 m; width. 4.30 m; disl. 8,950 kg
Salona 41 – The Salona 41 relies for its rigidity on laminated and layered structural hull bulkheads and the extended steel structural spider on which the stresses of the keel and mast joined to it are dissipated.
The resulting responsiveness transforms every puff of wind into acceleration giving unique sensations to its helmsman and those who sail it. Elegant customizable interiors with multiple choices of 2 and 3 cabins and 1 or 2 bathrooms. Length. 12.50 m; width. 3.84 m; disl. 7,450 kg
Xc-45 – Boat with from good motor maneuverability, easy sailing, high stability, uncompromising safety and quality in every detail. Increased engines, ample generator space, tanks below the floorboard, more space for personal items, ample interior ventilation. Length. 13.86 m; wd. 4.32 m; disl. 13,220 kg.

Cornish Crabbers, a British icon among Modern Classics.
