The new Beneteau First 44

The boat show season has kicked off with the Cannes Yachting Festival, and our editorial team went on board some new boats to get an overview of all the new features. One of these is Beneteau’s new First 44, a highly anticipated boat like all the latest Firsts that are renewing the shipyard’s range. It is presented in a standard version for cruise use and a Performance version to try your hand at racing as well. It is signed by Roberto Biscontini and Lorenzo Argento for water lines and design, respectively. Here is our tour on board and a preview of the boat while waiting to try it out.

Beneteau First 44, “driver” of sustainability

In Cannes, the unveiling of the new 44-footer was also an opportunity to take stock of the solutions Beneteau is implementing-quietly, so far-regarding the sustainability of its business.

Says Gianguido Girotti, CEO of Beneteau’s Boat division, “In terms of product development, we are currently focused on reducing environmental impact in two key areas: composite materials and propulsion systems. Focusing on composite materials, Beneteau created a special project team for the first hull of the Beneteau First 44, working with French resin manufacturer Arkema to build a prototype with 100 percent recyclable resin. This experience in composite materials will also be used to build two Mini 6.50″ prototypes.

These versions of the Beneteau First 44 and Mini 6.5 will be presented to the public during the winter boat shows.

Continues Girotti, “We decided to change the way we produce our small composite parts and introduced a new resin of organic origin and a natural fiber to replace the classic one. We also decided to look at the energy consumption of our factories. We decided to partner with a local player called Vendée Energie to install 4 hectares of photovoltaic shade on all the parking lots of our production sites.”
