Feel like getting back to measuring yourself under sail with your dockside neighbor? Do you miss some healthy sailing fun? Well then, don’t make any commitments because The Tyrrhenian’s busiest sail/race is coming back, the appointment is for July 24, 25, and 26 at Marina Calata Ovest in Chiavari, a port that is part of the Marinedi network. The TAG Heuer VELA Cup regatta/sailing event will be the first major sailing event after the lock down period, and with it the VELAFestival will also return. We will have fun at sea all together, with any boat, from dinghies to maxis, without tonnage certificates and in the absolute pleasure of experiencing the sea, and we have already arrived at more than 40 members.
But the beauty of the VELACup is also that there are prizes for (almost) everyone. We are not kidding. It is in the spirit of our event, and we also care about having the last place finisher on the podium.
In fact, prizes will be awarded to the top three in each grouping in the two categories “cruising” and “racing class,” there will be aper prizes and Vintage boats in the two categories “vintage” (built before 1969 and “vintage” (before 1989).
Awards will also be given to thehe first runner-up with the best performance (calculated by a secret handicap system) among all participating boats; the first in real time of the “cruising class” and “racing class” categories; the most elegant boat (Gentlemen Yachting prize); and as we anticipate there will be a prize for the last runner-up as well, as in the verse spirit of VELA Cup.
And then there will be gadgets and prizes raffled off by our partners, starting of course with TAG Heuer. A valuable TAG Heuer watch will be up for grabs at each stop, and if that is not enough, a beautiful Garmin inReach as well.
At each stage, each registrant receives a very rich hemp gift bag containing a real treasure. In addition to the regatta instructions and number stickers to be placed on the two bow sides of the boats, the gift bag contains: a T Shirt with the TAG Heuer Vela Cup and Medplastic logo; a copy of the Sailing Newspaper. There will also be inside the bag lots of other sailing-themed gadgets designed together with all our partners: TAG Heuer, Doyle Sailing, Vetus, Harken, Medplastic, Garmin Marine, Veneziani and MyMatchRace.
