The Sailing Company, despite the “delicate” period resulting from restrictions due to the coronavirus, has chosen to continue promoting the sport. In fact, the Veleziana this year will be enriched with three other “corollary” events over the weekend, namely the sailing regatta on the third, the Sb20 Veleziana, and the Dinghy Veleziana.
Between novelty and tradition
As for the newest addition, the Sb20 Veleziana, it is an “Onedesign Sb20” regatta to be held on October 16 and 17. The race course will be southeast of the San Nicolò breakwater at the Venice Lido; for organizational reasons, entries must be made by Oct. 12. In order to enable extensive participation, the club’s entire fleet will be present, with eight boats available for those who wish to reserve them and try their hand at the event.
The Veleziana Dinghy, on the other hand, intends to repeat last year’s participation success. The Dinghy 12′ zonal regatta will be an event that will put the focus on the century-old class in which even Olympic champions usually compete. The organization is carried out by the Avl, Lido Sailing Association, with the cooperation of the Compagnia della Vela and the Italian Dinghy 12′ Class Association. The race course will be in the lagoon waters in front of Avl, and registration will end on Oct. 13.
As in previous years, this edition will also see the participation of typical lagoon boats from the Vela al Terzo association, which will bring their colors to the lagoon course of the regatta. It has always been in the tradition of the Sailing Company to organize regattas with boats of this type, a tradition that is renewed by their presence in the waters of St. Mark’s Basin.
