Good news is coming from the ARC, the Atlantic Rally, for the Italian boats involved in the crossing. In fact, the first boat in the fleet to reach St. Lucia in the Caribbean has the tricolor on its stern; it is the Vismara 69 Nacira owned by Diego Paternò Castello and Federico Marchi, skippered by Federico Dosso in a crew that also included Ambrogio Beccaria. Nacira, after a long duel, won over Guyader Saveol’s rivals who crossed the finish line just over an hour after the Italian boat.

The calm trade winds at the beginning of the rally, which started from Las Palmas on Sunday, Nov. 21, were certainly not ideal for Nacica, which is a 23-meter monohull that is very oriented to carrying gaits, but when the wind finally strengthened, the boat changed pace making good time during the second half of the 3,188-mile course, even touching speeds of 28 knots. Crew spokesman Matteo Grassi said, “Most of the crew has already experienced the crossing, but we didn’t expect to have so much wind in the last few days, and we did almost 400 NM in one day, the boat is just a missile.”
