In what other regatta can you participate with your boat, whatever it is, race fiercely and sail calmly, party in the evening and win prizes regardless of your result? Long live the VELA Cup!
There are many little things that make the “VELA Cup method,” the only one that allows any boat, racing or cruising, to entertain a crew for a weekend. Throughout Italy from May to the end of August, with these stages:
May 7-8 – Eastern Liguria, Chiavari-Gulf of Tigullio, Marina Calata Ovest.
June 4-5 – Apulia, Brindisi, Marina di Brindisi.
June 18-19 – Sicily, Capo D’Orlando, Capo D’Orlando Marina.
July 23-24 Venice, Compagnia della Vela.
August 27-28 Sardinia (Emerald Coast), Cala dei Sardi.

How the VELA Cup day works.
To entice you and make you understand why you, too, can participate in the TAG Heuer VELA Cup, we tell you in brief what happens on a VELA Cup day, from morning to evening on a Saturday or Sunday.
The briefing
Early in the morning, around 8:30 a.m. in the harbor where the event is held, the briefing is held. We explain to all skippers and crews what the route is, how to adjust to give way, how to behave, as well as all useful tips. And we answer everyone’s questions. So there will be no problems at sea.
The regatta
After putting on the two bow sides the identification numbers, we go out for departure, around 11 o’clock. Not to worry, the starting line is spacious enough to accommodate all the competing boats. Those who want to start fiercely will head for the jury boat. On the other hand, those who want to set off quietly and without risk will choose their own space, which they will always find. You will head for the route indicated by the instructions (which were given to you and reiterated during the briefing).
The coastal course, between buoys or islets, will allow you to test your boat’s speed in the main gaits: upwind, slack, and grand slack. You will check, in comparison with other boats of similar size, whether you sail well or not. In case you are slow, look at how those who are faster than you adjust their sails and–copy their sail adjustments!
You don’t know when you will enjoy sailing with many other boats along the same route. And what satisfaction to cross the finish line! Please note that the regatta lasts no longer than four hours. So, you can go for it!
The evening
Back to port. You can relax, tidy up the boat, have something to eat with the crew, have a drink at the bar. Looking forward to hearing how you did. Because the VELA Cup is the only regatta where within hours of finishing you will know how you ranked and, perhaps, be rewarded. Immediately, without waiting.
And then comes the awards party around 8 p.m., where you can’t miss it to find out how you did and, most importantly because you “risk” winning something, even if you didn’t do the performance of a lifetime. Here you can know why, too, you can risk winning, regardless of the competitive outcome https://www.giornaledellavela.com/2022/03/27/tag-heuer-vela-cup-premi/
And then, to end on a high note, refreshments for all participants. What a day of sailing, sea, and passion at the VELA Cup!
