The wait to see it live will last until the upcoming Cannes Motor Show in September, where the new Amel 50 will be presented to the general public. The La Rochelle shipyard is “shortening” its feet compared to its standards and launching a 15-meter to widen the range of its owners: in fact, the new model will be more affordable both as a matter of size and economics.
The shipyard’s philosophy remains the same: to make boats to sail around the world in comfort. Looking at the design of the boat, one immediately notices that “something is missing”: the shipyard has in fact chosen a sloop rig for this new model, setting aside the traditional ketch rig for a moment.
A choice justified as follows by architect Olivier Racoupeau: “the development of technologies such as motorized furlers makes it easier to maneuver and no longer essential to ketch rigging.” But it doesn’t end there: for those who would like more information from May 12 to 14 in Cala de Medici, Sail Away (Amel Italia) is organizing three days of meetings where you can also go out on board the Amel 55 and Amel 64.
