The news was long overdue for aluminum boat lovers, and now the Alubat shipyard in Les Sables d’Olonne is ready to show the public the new Ovni 400, with a world premiere set at Boot Dusseldorf in January.
A boat that pulls a caesura line with the old Ovni aesthetic and, while staying within the shipyard’s tradition, brings a breath of innovation to the look. The most noticeable new feature is the “panoramic” deckhouse, with 360-degree views, which enhances the interior and provides a perfect view outward when sailing in harsh weather.
The jib has its sheet point adjustment carriage right on the deckhouse, in the inside, raised position. It thus leaves the deck passage to the bow clear, puts the sheet point in a more inward position thus improving the efficiency of the upwind sail, and at the same time keeps the sail luff high, a detail that will come in handy when sailing in waves and wind to prevent the sail from being overly affected by water coming up on deck.
The rollbarr, on the other hand, is used to house the mainsail sheet stays and is useful for positioning the canopy. Powerful bow volumes, with a completely straight flex to maximize the boat’s waterline length, the keel on the other hand as often in Ovni is liftable. The Ovni 400 ultimately is an interesting boat geared toward the blue water, long-range cruising world, but with a philosophy that looks at modern trends in design.
