The waning summer did not betray the expectations of sailors, who were greeted in the Gulf of Poets by decidedly warm temperatures approaching 30 degrees. The wind was a little less present but eventually a light breeze stretched across the gulf allowing crews to easily complete the course. Smiles, sometimes pulled crossings, but also a lot of fair play and friendship among the crews were the ingredients of a stage that really lacked nothing. The overall victory went to Giorgio Vanelo’s Brenta 44 Stella Filante, while the line honors went to the fleet’s flagship, Luciano Gandini’s Mylius 80 Twin Solul B.

Lerici’s was a stage that was also particularly attentive to anti Covid measures: online-only registration as well as briefing, badge pickup for crews by appointment only, final rankings communicated online. We have done all this because we believe in the importance of safety and because we are convinced that even by keeping crew distances, and giving something up, regattas can be done.

If then the regatta is in the right place like Lerici, or like the other stages of the VELA Cup, the party at sea is always guaranteed. Our VELA Cup therefore does not stop, with its usual formula open to all boats and all sailors it will continue to offer its spirit of shared sailing, we will continue to do so by doing whatever is necessary for the safety of the participating sailors.
