Eco Racer’s blanket and Roberto Spata’s “handprint”

Roberto Spata, one of the most experienced professional sailors there are in Italy, now also a project manager for boats such as the Momi 80 (which together with the Eco Racer won the Design Innovation Award of the Genoa Boat Show) and working on innovative boats such as Northern Light Composites. On the Eco Racer Spata oversaw the positioning and layout of the deck rigging, and told us something interesting about the idea behind it.
“The Eco Racer project was born out of a collaboration with Matteo Polli with whom I work often and with whom we have a commonality of views. My work on Eco Racer was to make the deck equipment and rigging as simple as possible. It is right that such small boats should be beautiful, and the design of Eco Racer is because of its lines as well as being interesting because of the concept of recyclability of the boat, but they should also be simple for owners who do not then have to waste hours ashore on maintenance. The deck plan will be very clean with hidden maneuvers, a boat where it will be “unnecessary” to go to the bow after ditching the moorings. The Eco Racer after the launch will be taken to Garda where we will test it by pulling the prototype to the limit for the final optimization,” Roberto Spata told us, whom we will see more and more often in this guise of boat preparer and optimizer, also in the role of project manager, as well as a professional racer.
