What could be better than seeing beautiful boats in action in places perfect for racing? A perfect equation, and even more so when some of the boats in question represent excellence in Italian shipbuilding. Indeed, we are talking about Mylius, the shipyard based in Podenzano, in the province of Piacenza. “You can use our boats like a 500 or like a race car, like a Lamborghini.” had told us in an interview (read it HERE) Luciano Gandini, owner of Mylius since 2011, and in the waters of Capri at Rolex Capri Sailing Week we admired the “racing” version, with some of the shipyard’s highest performing models doing battle.
Coming out on top in the end was Oscar 3, Aldo Parisotto’s Mylius 65, ahead of Luciano Gandini’s own Mylius 80 Twin Soul B, third place for Vincenzo Adessi’s Mylius 18e35 Fra Diavolo.
After all, the Mylius story speaks not only the language of luxury cruising boats, but also that of authentic sports boats, and indeed it is with this concept in mind that Gandini became the majority partner in this iconic brand: “I started, in the early 1990s, on Lake Garda. One day a friend, Mario Pettoello, invited me on his Comet 333 that he kept in Porto Santo Stefano. We participate in a regatta on the island of Giglio. We don’t win, but we swear we would have won a regatta. So as I continued to go cruising, just for the sheer pleasure of sailing, my boats, the Twin Souls, were born. Now there are already nine. After passing between Beneteau and Grand Soleil, I come across a Mylius 14.55. I like it, I buy it. With that I will win, I tell myself. So it happened, until I reached the turning point, when I decide to participate in the Mini Maxi World Championship in Porto Cervo with a new Mylius, the Twin Soul 6, a 65-footer (20 meters). I became not only the owner, but also the majority shareholder of the shipyard, which was then based in Gaeta. In 2011 we take the Twin Soul 6 to the Genoa Motor Show, and it is an immediate success.”
Long live then the beautiful boats and boating made in Italy.
