THE PERFECT GIFT!
Give or treat yourself to a subscription to the print + digital Journal of Sailing and for only 69 euros a year you get the magazine at home plus read it on your PC, smartphone and tablet. With a sea of advantages.
In the first installment (read it HERE) we introduced you to the topic, that is, explained how it is possible to have the main navigation data of our boat on your tablet or smartphone. Now let’s go do a little market review to find out what tools, namely Wi-Fi gateways, allow us to converge boat data on one of our devices.
B&G / WIFI-1 MODULE
Compact, waterproof, designed specifically for sailors who have decided to rely on B&G instrumentation, the WiFi-1 module is a gateway with which you can view data provided by the Zeus Touch series instruments on smartphones and tablets. The module connects to the MFP via Ethernet and automatically (it is in fact a plug and play device) transmits navigation info to multiple devices. www.bandg.com
RAYMARINE / MICROTALK
The new Performance Sailing MicroTalk wireless gateway integrates seamlessly into Raymarine’s wired and wireless systems and enables rapid transmission of data, such as that for wind angle and speed, depth, cruising speed, temperature, heading, GPS data, time, date and navigation information, between Raymarine and Tacktick wireless instruments and traditional wired instruments. www.raymarine.it
QUICK / QNN
Quick has designed and perfected the QNN – Quick Nautical Network gateway, which can receive all the communication protocols of the various products and systems signed by Quick (including maneuvering propellers, battery chargers, anchor windlasses, MC² Quick Gyro stabilizers, lights and many others) and then send them, via HTML5 protocol, to all the next-generation chartplotters on the market. www.quickitaly.com
ASTRA YACHT / GAMP 2000
To connect wirelessly to on-board instrumentation (via PC. tablet, smartphone and smartwatch) you can use via the Astra Gamp 2000 Wi-Fi multiplexer: it converts NMEA0183 data to NMEA2000 and vice versa. It allows all data to be transmitted via Wi-Fi and viewed using a smartphone or tablet. The GAMP 2000 has four NMEA0183 inputs. The control unit is equipped with Micro SD Slot, so you can record navigation data and review it using Astra Yacht’s iOS app. It is also available with a built-in GPS. www.astrayacht.com
GARMIN / WIFI ADAPTER AND GNT 10
This wifi adapter, combined with the BlueChart Mobile app allows you to remotely transfer routes, waypoints and more from your iPad, iPhone to your network Garmin chartplotter. During navigation, the adapter allows Apple devices to “follow the boat” along the route” by wirelessly sharing GPS location from the Garmin Marine Network. Instead, the GNT 10 transceiver connected to the NMEA 2000 network allows wireless Garmin devices (including the Quatix, which can automatically activate the MOB function) to share on-board information. www.garmin.com/it-IT
