An 80-footer with the same concept as the Club Swan 36. If the intent of Nautor’s Swan was to amaze everyone, it certainly hit the mark, because a boat with these characteristics and of this size is certainly something never before seen in the production of a major shipyard.

“We wanted to introduce a new concept in the Maxi world and reinvigorate owner participation internationally. That is why we created a new ClubSwan 80 and brought together the brightest minds in the sailing industry, working with the goal of evolving accepted principles in the sailing world.” Thus Enrico Chieffi, vice president of Nautor Group, wants to present to the world the new ClubSwan 80 design, currently under construction, highlighting once again how Nautor’s ClubSwan Yachts division is proving to offer a range of boats based on values of style, speed, innovation, technology and competitive sailing potential.”

The project, of course, was entrusted to the volcanic designer Juan K, former designer of 36′. But there is also a lot of Italy, with interiors by Nauta Design and engineering by Giovanni Belgrano. Many enthusiasts will turn their noses up at this almost “futuristic” vision of Swan, in fact the Finnish shipyard, with Italian managment, is by no means denying its history. In fact, today Nautor produces three lines of boats. Swan Yachts is the one dedicated to the tradition of the shipyard, with cruising boats for long cruising with excellent sailing performance. Here fans of Swan’s past can find what they are looking for. Then there is also the Maxi division, and there is the Club Swan division, which is that area where the shipyard has decided to develop totally innovative designs that have performance as their main focus, such as the new Club Swan 80.

The brief behind the new project was to create a maxi yacht for real time racing: identical, modern, fast and fun yachts to compete with the same equivalent characteristics, relying on the skills of the owner at the helm. For the construction of the ClubSwan 80, Nautor’s Swan partnered with Nembro-based Persico Marine, an international shipyard renowned worldwide for its expertise in building high-performance yachts.
Persico is putting to use its know-how gained from mass production of VO65 and larger high-performance advanced single-design boats currently under sail.
