You have as many as 3 votes for each voting phase to cast for your favorites. You can give all 3 to the same person, to three different sailors, as you prefer. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the most prestigious award in Italian sailing, we wanted a list of nominees filled with people of an enormous caliber who have distinguished themselves for particular sailing feats and more over the past 30 years. Multiple champions, those who have made sailing history, enthusiasts who have managed to make a dream reality. The thousand faces of sailing.

Among them is the one we chose for today’s cover: the “prince” Andrea Baldini, in 12th place with 530 votes. The “Prince,” as the fastest Italian windsurfer is called. European windsurfing speed champion in 2009, he was the first “paisan” to glide at over 40 knots of speed on his board. Today he is the creator and organizer of the Prince of Speed event, where the person who goes the fastest in high winds and flat seas, on the 500 meters and the nautical mile, wins.

Let’s see who is in the top positions at the moment!

In the top two positions are Simone Camba (photo left) and Marta Magnano (photo right), the two Sardinian sailors are competing for votes, backed by all the people of Sardinia and beyond. Both front-runners have a large following both in the media and stemming from the social world.

Simone, the sailor policeman who uses sailing as a means of social redemption, is leading with over 4200 votes at the time of writing, while Marta follows soon after with over 2700 votes.

Excitingly, Simone’s story of his work promoting sailing in Cagliari and throughout Sardinia is concerned with the social inclusion of both Sardinian adolescents with criminal issues and migrants, using sailing as a means of social redemption.

Marta, on the other hand, in January 2019, at the age of 28, decided to take the plunge and move to live abo ard Churingas, a 10-meter sailboat, turning it into her “sweet boat” with which to travel the world. Marta has managed to become for an ever-widening audience a true example of courage and life choices.

-IIIth place for Elisabetta Maffei “the Adriatic”

The Pesaro-based sailor is credited with introducing so many people to sailing with her highly followed “basic” online video lessons. Started from the bottom, often criticized by a certain “snobbish” sailing community , she never got down she made the solo crossing from Barcelona to Pesaro on a Mini 650.

-IVth place for Giancarlo Pedote “The Hero of the Vendee”

A life for sailing, his. Sacrifices and hard work, the excellent results at the Mini Transat (fourth and second place), the great eighth place at the recently concluded Vendée Globe (no Italian did better than him). The Florentine sailor, 2016 Sailor of the Year, is an example: if you want to, you can.

-Vth place for super helmsman Francesco Bruni “The English”

The helmsman of Luna Rossa is one of Italy’s most accomplished, eclectic and titled active sailors: in 30 years of career sportsman has to his credit 7 World Titles, 5 European Championships and 15 Nationals in various classes from Laser to offshore, from Star to 49er and was first in the ISAF World Match Race Ranking in 2011.He participated in three Olympics and is vice world champion in the Moth class. This is his fifth America’s Cup, the fourth with Luna Rossa….

They are followed by: sixth-place Domenico Lamante, seventh-place Pietro Sibello, eighth-place Adrian Quan Cardi, and ninth- and tenth-place siblings Nicolò and Maddalena Spanu.

Who is at risk in the 30th position?

The riskiest position in the ranking has two very different characters in play:

John Elkann, class of 1976. Without him, the last Giovanni Soldini, the one of records and superboats, we would not have known. The owner of the Maseratis (first the VOR 70, now the flying trimaran) is a true sailing and racing enthusiast, just like his grandfather, the lawyer Gianni Agnelli. The chairman of Exor and Fca as soon as he gets a chance, he climbs aboard with Soldini, as he did at the last Rolex Middle Sea Race. “I in the boat expect to win,” he said.

(1996) Marta Maggetti is the Olympic hope in the RS:X class, who knows if she will be Alessandra Sensini’s heir. In recent years he has won three world titles, two European titles and several international awards…
