A “sailing” 15 episodes and 45 years long.
Then, at the bottom, we explain all the initiatives we have set up to celebrate our birthday with you. But now it is time to look back. Because as the great Ennio Flaiano said, “Courage, the best is past.”
1978-80. THE GREAT STORIES OF SAILING
1978. The passion for sailing exploded in Italy, thanks in part to sailing schools like Caprera with its 400 instructors churning out tens of thousands of new sailors in just a few years. New ultralight boats make their debut in local regattas.
1979. A cover to remember one of history’s greatest navigators, Alain Colas. He mysteriously disappears, during the Route du Rhum, from his 20-meter trimaran Manureva. The game of oceanic enterprises becomes very dangerous.
1980. When a strong wind comes and you dare to pull up the spinnaker, it can happen to be lying on the water for 5 minutes, even if an America’s Cup champion like John Marshall is at the helm. Here she lies, Brava by Pasquale Landolfi, after a strapoggia. Then there is a photographer who is at the right time in the right place and takes this wonderful image that makes him famous and launches his career. That photographer is Carlo Borlenghi.
