180 boats set off for the TAG Heuer VELA Cup/Veleziana

Last stop in 2020 for the TAG Heuer VELA Cup, which comes to Venice and will be hosted within the Veleziana, with the organization of the Compagnia della Vela, a historic regatta held in the waters of the Serenissima. The 13th edition of the sports event organized by the Sailing Company will be held on October 18 .

The start is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. in the space in front of the Lido, and the finish, in St. Mark’s Basin, will see the first ones to reach the finish line a4round 12 noon. The finish line will be the juncture between the sailors’ tower4a of St. George’s dock and the church of St. Mary of Mercy, so as to ensure the continuity of navigation for Actv vehicles. More than 180 boats registered. Also adding to the prestige of the regatta are the prizes raffled off by VELA Cup partners: an Acquaracer watch from TAG Heuer, a Sup from the Yellow Vetus line, the exclusive sailing bagpack from Doyle‘s sailmaker, a self-inflating jacket from Spinlock, and a Garmin Inreach satellite communicator.

The route, which is coastal in nature, includes:

• start located outside the Venice Lido’s Bocca di Porto as better specified in the Sailing Instructions;
• possible disengagement positioned at the entrance to the St. Nicholas harbor entrance in the vicinity of the lunge, as more fully specified in the Sailing Instructions;
• Mandatory gate at the entrance to the Lido Harbor inlet;
• Entrance to the lagoon through the Lido Harbor, San Nicolo Canal;
• Arrival in St. Mark’s Basin near the headquarters of the Sailing Company.

The passage of boats at the gate may be considered valid as a ranking if the boats fail to arrive at the St. Mark’s finish line by the 5 p.m. time limit.

On the 16th and 17th, there will be the Veleziana Sb20 regatta, organized by the Sailing Company and open to the public, held at sea. In case of bad weather instead it will be brought inside. The briefing will be held on the 16th at 9 a.m., followed by the first three trials from noon, which will be repeated the following day. The Dinghy regatta, also a side event of the Veleziana, is instead organized by the Lido Sailing Association.

TAG Heuer VelaCup is’ the circuit of sailing rallies with the largest number of participants in Italy where, in some of the most fascinating locations in the Mediterranean, boat owners and crews, as well as simple enthusiasts and the curious, gather for a weekend party at sea and on the dock. Venice’s is the last stop in a long 2020 season.

The formula is very simple: a sailing competition among boats of all sizes and shapes, with no age restrictions, no bureaucracy or technical complications, with rankings based on length. First come, first served wins. Evening dockside party.
