This is it, only 11 days to go until the start of the TAG Heuer VELA Cup in Caprera, the only Caribbean sailing event in the Mediterranean. Already about 30 boats have decided to take part in the event including some well-known faces from the sailing world: here’s who will be there!
Come challenge Vincenzo Onorato and Mascalzone Latino
Vincenzo Onorato, owner of Moby, Tirrenia and Toremar fell in love with the VELA Cup designed in collaboration with the Caprera Sailing Center. Team owner Mascalzone Latino will field three pearls from his “stable” on the starting line: including the Swan 38 and 65 and another team boat. Mascalzone Latino sailing school kids are also on board.
The “navigator” Marianna De Micheli
“Guys, this VELA Cup I absolutely cannot miss.” Centrovetrine actress and Centoboline writer, Marianna De Micheli, will arrive, wind permitting in Sardinia’s Caprera for a sail aboard her Comet 910 Plus Maipenrai in the company of her mythical kitty, Jingjok.
Super sailors
Francesco Cappelletti, the only Italian to take part in the Golden Globe Race, Sardinia’s Andrea M ura with the Open 50 Vento di Sardegna (the Open 50 Mura, ed.) in a summer ‘cruise’ configuration complete with his little son Lucas (11 months old, perhaps the youngest participant?) and Simone Camba’s boys from the NewSardiniaSail association. A fine group of great sailors and great sailors in “cruise mood.”
