Publicly recognized as the most beautiful J Class ever built in the world, Endeavour was recently put up for sale. And what better time than now in which the class, queen of the race courses, is experiencing a second youth? The last time Endeavour was spotted on the water participating in a regatta was in 2012 during the St Barths Bucket with the legendary sail number JK4. The price? 20 million.
A LITTLE HISTORY…
As we mentioned, Endeavour is the world’s most famous J Class, starring in the 1934 America’s Cup challenge when, as a British challenger owned by Sir Thomas Sopwith, it lost to Harold Vanderbilt’s American defender Rainbow. Having escaped demolition in the 1940s, it was also one of the most daring and important restorations of the 20th century. Indeed, in 1984 American billionaire Elizabeth Meyer took over this metal hull, reduced to a wreck, near the Isle of Wight and subjected it to a five-year refit that began in Southampton and ended at the Dutch Royal Huisman shipyard with the involvement of the firm of architect Gerard Dijkstra. From that time he began to attend all the gatherings in the Meditrranean, Northern Europe and overseas. In 2008 he traveled to China for the Olympics.
