The adventures of…three men on a boat are not always as entertaining as those recounted in J.K. Jerome’s famous book. The U.S. Coast Guard coordinated the rescue of three elderly sailors about 1,200 miles east of Cape Cod (Massachusetts, USA). The three (two are 79 years old, one 72) were aboard the 42-foot Tao (flying the French flag). The boat, they had reported in the distress call, was taking on water and was in danger of capsizing.
THE RESCUE OPERATIONS OF THE “OLD MEN”
The HC-130 Hercules airplane arrived first at the crash site, launching Tao’s crew with flares, a life raft aboard which the three abandoned the boat, and a radio. A few hours later, a Spanish fishing boat, the Robero, retrieved the castaways, who were then transported to the hospital ship Esperanza for assessments (all are well). WATCH THE VIDEO OF THE RESCUE
