The new Azzurra TP52 for the 2015 52 Super Series season is rapidly taking shape at the King Marine shipyard in Valencia. The deck has been closed on the hull, in fifty days the first navigation trials are scheduled to take place. In less than two months, the new Azzurra will take to the sea, once again carrying in the wind and among the waves that name that more than thirty years ago introduced Italy to great sailing with its first participation in the America’s Cup.
VIDEO: THE HULL-DECK COUPLING
The sporting symbol of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda will continue its success story in the incoming season in the 52 Super Series professional sailing circuit, the most competitive and technologically advanced for single-hulled yachts. As many as eight new boats including Azzurra are scheduled to be on the water in 2015, specifically designed on the new TP52 class rule, designed to further increase performance: greater sail area and keel draft for less displacement. The 2015 52 Super Series will feature fourteen top teams at the start, highlighting a steady growth of the circuit. The new Azzurra is the third boat in the TP52 class and picks up the winning legacy of the previous example, winner of the circuit in 2012 and current runner-up. Like its predecessor, Azzurra 2015 was designed by Spaniard Marcelino Botin and is being built at King Marine under the supervision of project manager Miguel Costa.
The 2015 season includes Azzurra’s debut at Palmavela (Palma de Mallorca April 30-May 3) as a test event for participation in the 52 Super Series circuit beginning May 18 in Valencia. The full calendar is online at www.azzurra.it
