straps
Ever since the action-cam craze broke out, we’ve seen plenty of it on board. Strapping, the black beast of racers, has a point of no return before which helmsman and crew can intervene. When the boat begins to heel to windward, the helmsman must respond to the decisive heave by anticipating the boat’s leaning tendency and repositioning it to a narrower, safer angle to the wind. In the video we show you, the point of no return is crossed as the helmsman of a Hong Kong crew aboard an X “if fishing” and looking over his shoulder. The consequences are catastrophic: some say the man overboard retired to an ascetic life after escaping a bombing that could have been fatal to him!
