The MOD70 class no longer has its own circuit. Too few boats, costs too high. But most of these spectacular ultrafast trimarans continue their careers (perhaps modified, like Gitana and Musandam Oman Sail, for a transatlantic such as the Route du Rhum): Phaedo 3, the former Foncia of Michel Desjoyeaux (now captained by Lloyd Thornburg) is the one that is reaping the most success. After touring the world to check the state of pollution in the seas, the 70-footer has landed in the Caribbean to make her return to the racing world. He smashed the RORC Caribbean 600 (setting a new multihull distance record) and now he has also won Les Voiles de Saint Barth in his category, setting another record, that of highest speed ever recorded in the event (Thornburg’s court had Desjoyeaux and Brian Thompson, not exactly newbies). Here is Phaedo 3 in action in this spectacular video.
