The world of single performance dinghies is enriched by a newcomer with an emblazoned origin: the Melges 14.
THE MELGES 14 IN BRIEF
Built by Melges and designed by Reichel / Pugh, the 4.267-meter-long (and 1.584-wide) Melges 14 has a weight of 54 pounds and a half. The mainsail, rigged on a carbon mast and boom, can be 9.1 or 7.8 square meters depending on the configuration chosen (mid-range, less demanding, or full-range, with more sail area). The drift features a wide cockpit (so as to reduce rolling) and open aft. The shape of the edge is square. Let us know what you think. www.melgeseurope.com

ANTI-LASER?
The Melges 14, just like the RS Aero(which we tested on Lake Iseo), is a candidate as the new “anti-Laser.” Or rather, try to run for office. It is more than a challenge to undermine the “old” queen of drifts, designed in 1971 by Canadian designer Bruce Kirby. Who never dreamed he would see his own idea of a “ready-to-go” driftboat reproduced in nearly 200,000 examples distributed in 140 countries around the world, on which the greatest sailors have tried their hand. A “beach” boat that only last year proved it could also fly thanks to the system of foils to be assembled in minutes devised by Glide Free, meeting the needs of sailors most in need of adrenaline.
