Star Clippers, the large sailing ship cruise line, has announced the construction of a new tall ship to join its fleet. It will be the largest sailing ship in the world: still does not have a name, but it is known that it will have five masts, was designed based on the drawings of the France II (1912 design), will be propelled by 6,350 square meters of sails and will weigh 8,770 tons.
A PALACE BY THE SEA
The megabark will go on to steal the title of the world’s largest “square rigger” from the 439-foot-long Royal Clipper (also part of the Star Clippers fleet). It will come to life at the Brodosplit shipyards in Split, Croatia, and will be ready for launch around summer 2017. It will be able to accommodate 300 passengers in 150 cabins (among which will be included 34 suites with terraces overlooking the sea and four large master cabins). The vessel will be equipped with three swimming pools, a massage and fitness area, a library, a chapel, and four bars (including a piano bar). Guests will have lunch and dinner in a restaurant in the main lobby.
RESERVATIONS OPEN IN 2016
Once delivered in 2017, the new giant will begin following the company’s most heavily traveled routes, in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. Do you want to get on board for an unforgettable vacation? Reservations will be open in 2016. Star Clippers currently operates three of the world’s largest sailing ships, Star Flyer and Star Clipper (170 passengers) and the aforementioned Royal Clipper (227 passengers). www.starclippers.com
