Every new superyacht creates great anticipation, and even for the 64-footer from French shipyard Jeanneau, the time is almost ripe to take to the water. Born out of a close collaboration between Philippe Briand and Andrew Winch, the Jeanneau 64 inherits elegant lines and balanced proportions. Safety, speed and comfort are the key points of this flagship. Philippe Briand achieved these characteristics with a modern sharp-edged hull for greater speed, stability, and interior volume.
THE DESIGN OF OUTDOOR SPACES: A DECK FOR LIVING
Experiencing a large yacht thoroughly means, above all, making full use of its outdoor spaces, which is why special attention has been paid to the deck where there are spaces dedicated to relaxation, dining, reading, and sunbathing. It is immediately striking from the first renderings how the designer has succeeded in the difficult task of maintaining a low, streamlined deckhouse despite the hull’s more than twenty meters. In the cockpit, the wheelhouse area is clearly separated from the central part, so as to isolate the space occupied by maneuvering from the space dedicated to relaxation, even when sailing. Early drawings show how the shipyard envisions a dual version of the boat, with or without a rollbar: in the former case, the mainsail sheet will be passed over this support in order to have a totally free cockpit. A double wheelhouse and a garage for tender stowage are provided at the stern.
ANDREW WINCH: THE DESIGNER’S TOUCH
In the distribution of interior spaces and meticulous attention to detail, Andrew Winch’s touch is clearly visible. The superyacht philosophy wants maximum customization for the owner: there are a variety of combinations that make the Jeanneau 64 a true semi-custom yacht with different options for interior and exterior layouts, a wide variety of fabrics, wood species, leathers and equipment. There are 5 portholes on each broadside, 4 on the deckhouse and 4 forward on the deck. The master stateroom, located forward, provides a double bed on the port broadside, and to the right a sofa, coffee table, and large closet. A large C-shaped sofa is provided in the saloon, which is built around a large central table on the right where, further aft, a small chart table also finds space. On the left, however, the kitchen is arranged. Regarding the number of cabins, 4 versions are planned: from 3 to 6 cabins.
