Hurry, you have until tomorrow to book your release on the new Azuree 46, which has landed in Italy for Azuree Days: Turkish shipyard Sirena Marine’s fast cruiser will be in Portorosa (Messina) on July 12 and 13, available for sea trials by appointment (send an email to info@sirnew.com to book yourselves, we are at the deadline!).
WILL NOT BE THE ONLY OPPORTUNITY
Importer Sirnew, along with area dealer My Yacht, have organized a weekend of Boat Tours and Sea Trials by appointment starting Saturday morning through late afternoon on Sunday. The boat will be moored in the area of Avanporto – Posto 22. Can’t be there? no worries: on July 19-20 the Azuree 46 will be available in Riva di Traiano (Rome) and throughout August it will be in San Remo, where after the Cannes Boat Show (at which the boat will be presented) it will be available for further sea trials.
OUR TEST OF AZUREE 46
We had previewed it some time ago, directly in Istanbul. Here are what our impressions had been.
A quick glance from the dock immediately reveals Rob Humphreys’ new touch, which, while retaining decidedly oceanic features (the edge remains pronounced running along the hull, the double rudder blade, the wide maximum beam that maintains significant dimensions all the way to the stern), has made the new 46-footer less aggressive than its smaller brothers 33 and 40 and more projected toward Mediterranean and cruise useo. This new approach can be seen in some of the solutions aimed at improving comfort on board: in the cockpit, the two benches open up to form comfortable sunbeds equipped with cushions that do not get in the way, the deckhouse slopes gently toward the bow creating a continuous line, and below deck the spaces are large and well distributed. The interior has amazing lighting given both by the natural light coming in through the portholes and by the choice of a light wood color and properly placed artificial lights. Three well-thought-out solutions strike my attention: in the saloon we find on the starboard side, positioned between two seats, the chart table (with drawn inside a top for playing backgamon…) that folds down with the simple pressure of the hands to form an additional berth or seats for the dining table; the table in the saloon spreads out with a simple move, creating space for eight people to eat comfortably; in the spacious and bright forward master cabin there is room for a seat and a small table with a mirror for the ladies’ makeup on board.
HOW HE BEHAVED IN THE WATER
We are now ready to cast off our moorings with an exceptional soundtrack accompanying us: the song of the Mujaheddin follows our exit from the harbor enveloping us in a mystical cloud. We hoist the sails just outside the breakwater and start sailing upwind: this is the gait that gave us the best performance: the boat accelerates quickly, confirming the good choice of hull lines that allow little wetted surface. The wind is struggling to blow and we record with 9 knots of real a speed of 5.7 at a 40-degree angle, leaning to go to the carriers you can feel that the boat suffers a bit from the lack on board of the Code 0 and gennaker (provided by the shipyard for maximum performance). Putting us on the beam we record 4 knots of speed. In motor instead we touch 8.8 knots at maximum speed (2900 rpm), while the cruising speed is 8.1 knots at 2500 rpm.
