It could not miss, in a year as special as the one ahead, the Sail Newspaper Poster Calendar. Why a special year? Because in 2015 The Journal of Sailing is celebrating its first 40 years and wants to do it together with you. That is why we have chosen the twelve images you see on the page to the right; not strictly related to current events, they do, however, hold important meaning for boaters or even those who simply love the world of the sea. And we have linked them to twelve symbolic words, chosen to evoke the feelings one gets when sailing. Immortals, Adventure, Challenge, Compare, Dare, Speed, Pleasure, Goals, Spectacle, Objects, Memories, Being Together. All these are constituent elements of the passion for sailing. A sport, or rather a way of life that unites us all. You can purchase the 2015 Poster Calendar at nauticplace.com bookstore section for 9.90 euros or get it for free by subscribing by December 31, 2014!
2015 ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL POSTER CALENDAR: TWELVE PHOTOS, TWELVE SYMBOLIC WORDS
JANUARY
Immortals. There are magical boats that enter the history of sailing and resist the wear and tear of time by remaining ever relevant, such as the Star, which just turned 100 years old.
FEBRUARY
Adventure Driven only by the inexhaustible energy of the wind-this is the secret that allows a sailboat to go where it will. Like the Solaris 72 Kamana in Greenland.
MARCH
Challenge No matter where, how or when, going sailing is always a small or big challenge with yourself and the elements. Like the Pen Duick VI in the ocean in the 1970s.
APRIL
Compare. Alone, in crew, boat against boat. The sport of sailing is the gymnasium of confrontation between men, means, elements. As at the Congressional Cup in Newport.
MAY
Dare. Pushing further each time, seeking a new limit. Sailing induces one to challenge oneself. Like Sodebo in an unsuccessful swamping.
JUNE
Speed. It doesn’t matter how fast you go. Feeling the wind in your face, the boat cutting through the sea is the essence of sailing. So it is for the men of Hydroptère during the speed record.
JULY
Pleasure Sailing with full sails in crystal clear water. Without noise, without tension. The pleasure goes up intense and infects anyone aboard a sailboat.
AUGUST
Goals. Cutting the finish line in a regatta or simply reaching the harbor. Going is sailing always means having a place to arrive.
SEPTEMBER
Entertainment. Sailing also becomes an exciting spectacle, to be seen and not practiced. is the new frontier ushered in with the 2012 America’s Cup.
OCTOBER
Memories. The multiplicity of situations one finds oneself in when navigating produces a wealth of indelible memories. As in the Italians when they fell in love with Azzurra in 1983.
NOVEMBER
Objects. Sailboats are wonderful complex objects, subject to continuous improvement that produce intense pleasure in their owners. Pictured is Hugo Boss, Mark Lloyd.
DECEMBER
Being together. In close quarters, perhaps enclosed in a cockpit gliding over the waves as during the Around the World or, simply, in the midst of a leisurely cruise.
