The new Sunbeam 40.1 (currently the hull mold has been finished and the deck mold is in the works; the boat will be ready in November) is the result of a collaboration between the Sunbeam team and the Slovenians of Seaway.
The boat is part of the Mattsee (Austria) shipyard’s new range that combines modern and classic lines in the hull and sportiness and elegance on deck. The (fine) joinery, will be quite similar to that already seen on the 36.1 and 42.1.
For the first time, Sunbeam is making a boat with a decidedly stern cockpit: space is ample and access to the transom, equipped with a fold-down swim platform (and folding ladder), is easy. Here a sundeck is located beneath which is a storage space. The double wheelhouse features safe and sheltered stations. Halyards, sheets and main rigging pass under the deck and are deferred in the cockpit for easier control even with a smaller crew. The mainsail sheet is double as standard, while the self-tacking jib is optional. Teak is the standard material.
The interior layout is marked by modern lines, with emphasis on ventilation. You can choose from two different configurations: one with three cabins and one with two. The forward cabin may have a center bed or two beds arranged in a “v” shape with the addition of a shower. There may be one or two aft cabins: in the former case, you will enjoy a large technical area. The square provides the “L” shaped kitchen on the left, while on the starboard side is the bathroom with shower. Around the main table an L-shaped sofa and to starboard a small table with two seats.
The Sunbeam 40.1 will be presented to the general public in January 2015 at Boot Dusseldorf . www.sunbeam.at
