Sciroccata in the Adriatic: boat loses keel and beaches in Grado


This dramatic footage shows a 12-meter sailboat beached on Grado’s sandy shore during a heavy siroccata on Sunday, May 11. Strong gusts and rough seas hit the Adriatic town on Sunday. A boat in distress flying the Croatian flag was stranded near the French Riviera in the town at the mouth of the Soča River. Promptly rescued by Coast Guard personnel all crew members. The boat’s uprooted keel was found about 20 meters further from the hull in an area of water just 40 centimeters deep. A witness reconstructs what happened as follows: “I think they got the wrong entrance … They did not center the channel and went dry … Then once you start touching you’re finished…”
