Sailors for Haiti is a winning idea born from the friendship of two great figures in the sailing world, Mauro Pelaschier and Davide Besana. The two invite great sailors, clubs, teams, shipyards and sponsors to donate their sportswear, polo shirts and windbreakers that would otherwise sit in closets waiting to be devoured by moths, to raise funds in favor of the Francesca Rava Foundation – NPH Italia Onlus which works to benefit the NPH Saint Damien Children’s Hospital, which cares for 80,000 children in need in impoverished Haiti. An unmissable opportunity for enthusiasts, who will also find them at the TAG Heuer VELAFestival, in Genoa April 10-13.
THE GREAT SAILORS WHO HAVE ALREADY JOINED THE INITIATIVE
Among the champions who joined the initiative were ocean sailors and Olympic champions who donated autographed Luna Rossa team America’s Cup 2013 jerseys, including Paul Campbell-James, Nick Hutton and the seasoned vest of Max Sirena, the vest of Tiziano Nava, Azzurra’s clubhand in 1983, team New Zealand’s jacket, polo shirts and jackets of Olympians Giulia Conti, Pietro Sibello, Chiara Calligaris, Cristiana Monina, Marina Yachting, Rolex Italia, and Pirelli polo shirts, BMW Sail Academy polo shirts signed by Mauro Pelaschier, the technical garments of Nacra 17 champion Silvia Sicouri, garments donated by Francesco De Angelis, Cino Ricci and Giovanni Soldini, Enrico and Tommaso Chieffi, Vincenzo Onorato, Franco Pivoli, Andrea Caracci, and official uniforms of crews of legendary boats such as Kauris III, Kirribilli, Gitana 6, Benbow, Rrose Selavy, The Moor of Venice and many others.
THE FRANCESCA RAVA FOUNDATION N.P.H ITALY
The Francesca Rava Foundation., which is named after the memory of the young sailor known on the Italian race courses, helps children in distress in Italy and around the world and is particularly committed to bringing medical care, education and hope to Haiti, a country in daily emergency due to hunger and disease, also hit after the 2010 earthquake by hurricanes and cholera (www.nph-italia.org). The Sailors For Haiti booth will be in the TAG Heuer VELAFestival shopping area.
