sailor-of-the-yearIt’s only been a few days since the launch of our poll allowing you to vote for your 2015 Sailor of the Year, and it’s already booming with votes. The selection of the 50 candidates who will pass the first round from among the “Magnificent 100” we have “nominated” will truly be a challenge to the death.

HOW IS IT GOING
We have chosen, for this edition of the most coveted award for sailors, to nominate boats as well. And it is a boat, for now, that is running the show. It is Globulo Rosso, Este 31 by Alessandro Burzi., who in 2014 came close to winning overall the title of Owner of the Year (which went to Giuffré), triumphing in Category 4, reserved for smaller boats. Then, as was to be expected, on the leaderboard it is a succession of young athletes, certainly advantaged by mastering social tools to the fullest. Byte CII and Laser Radial specialist Carolina Albano racked up the votes; the same goes for nice (and strong) minist Michele Zambelli. Then Mattia Camboni, young ace sailboarder, Silvia Zennaro, Radial talent, Giorgia Speciale (Techno 293) and Elena Berta and Giulia Paolillo (470). Then again a boat, this time among the classics, Massimiliano Ferruzzi’s Moro di Venezia I. Completing the top ten are Daniele Benedetti (RS:X) and Angry Red Unitenergy, the T-34 ORC Italian Champion in its category.

HOW VOTING WORKS
You have until Feb. 20, the day we close the “ballot box”: of the 100 nominees, 50 will advance to the next stage (the most voted: you will only be able to express one preference, so think carefully!).
Mind you, the categories are only indicative, because it will be a real “cauldron” in which the “all against all” rule will apply. From 50 then they will become 25, and so on, until you identify the shortlist of papal candidates that you will be able to meet in person at the TAG Heuer VELAFestival in Santa Margherita (specifically, on May 8, during the Day of Champions, here you can find everything about TAG Heuer VELAFestival) and from which a quality jury, composed of top journalists and sailing professionals, will decide (also taking into account the number of votes you cast) the winner of the 2015 TAG Heuer Sailor of the Year.

ARE ANY OF THEM MISSING?
If you believe that some other name may be part of the shortlist, please feel free to indicate this by sending an e-mail to speciali@panamaeditore.it, including a photo of your chosen candidate and the reason for the nomination.
