2.4Skud, Sonar, 2.4 mR. Will they go the way of the Star? It would appear so. The International Paralympic Committee has decided for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games to exclude sailing from the sports.

THE REASONS FOR EXCLUSION
Too high costs of organizing the event and the not-so-high number of people with disabilities participating in the sport seem to have been the reasons for the decision. Incidentally, while the Paralympic Committee was voting on the exclusion in Abu Dhabi, the president of the World Sailing Federation for the Disabled John Twomey was racing in Miami (as noted in the heartfelt appeal by Daniele Malavolta, president of the Liberi nel Vento association, which appeared on gazzetta.it), giving, it would seem, a fine show of disregard. WHAT WE HAVE TO LOSE
In addition to the fact that sailing – it is always good to remember – offers people with disabilities the unique opportunity to experience the sea and sport without barriers, it should be remembered that in Italy we have guys as strong as Marco Gualandris and Marta Zanetti, fresh from bronze in Florida on the Skud 18 and Antonio Squizzato, a medal of the same color at the European Championships in Valencia last year among the 2.4 mR.

MOBILIZE YOURSELF TOO!
ISAF (the International Sailing Federation) has issued a statement asking all sailors around the world to send an email in support of the reinstatement of sailing in the Paralympics: messages should be sent to the address disabled@isaf.com and will then be forwarded to the International Paralympic Committee along with a comprehensive package of information on Paralympic sailing.
