imageSaturday, Nov. 8- At 5:30 p.m. yesterday, Britain’s Conrad Humphreys, who was participating in the Route du Rhum aboard the Class 40 Cat Phones, contacted the race committee and reported his dismasting while 380 miles east of the Azores. The sailor is safe inside the boat and is monitoring the situation: the organization immediately contacted the French marine rescue center, which will bring Humphreys back ashore as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the situation for the blue athletes is quite stable: after the initial breakdown, which forced him to a forced stop in Roscoff, Giancarlo Pedote began a slow and inexorable comeback. Currently, with 2,670 miles to go in Pointe-aPitre (Guadeloupe), his Class 40 Fantastica is in 16th position but given the proximity to the other boats a top ten finish is still within reach. Alessandro Di Benedetto maintains sixth position among IMOCA 60s, on his Team Plastique. In the Rhum category, Andrea Mura is still leading on Vento di Sardegna: for now, with 2,432 miles to go, he seems to have paid for his choice to stay further north than the chasing fleet.

Meanwhile, the race lead is approaching the coast of Guadeloupe very quickly. The Ultime category, that of superboats ridden by super sailors, will have its winner shortly (two days, three at most): most likely it will be Loick Peyron on the maxi trimaran Banque Populaire VII, which is 800 miles from the finish. In second place was Yann Guichard’s MOD70 Spindrift, in third place Lionel Lemonchois on his Prince de Bretagne.
