TOAST-CORFU
When: June 11 to 13
Type: Long Regatta (104 miles)
For Whom: All Orc, Orc Club and Multihull Tied Boats
Because: The Brindisi-Corfu is the busiest event in the southern Adriatic, with more than 100 boats starting each year. The keys to its success (this is the 29th edition) are the great welcoming spirit of which the organization is capable and the beauty of the middle, Corfu, with its crystal waters, dreamy beaches and the capital of the same name, a “Venice in miniature.” Some owners take advantage of the regatta in preparation for their summer vacation in Greece. www.brindisi-corfu.it
GIRAGLIA ROLEX CUP
When: June 13 to 21
Type: Coastal, stick and long races (243 Miles)
For whom: All IRC, Orc, Orc Club tared boats over 9.14 meters
Because: The Giraglia is always the Giraglia, for lovers of the high seas it is an untouchable “evergreen.” An adventure, after the celebrations in Saint Tropez, to the most famous rock in the Mediterranean, and then to Monte Carlo (new this year): a choice dictated by the desire to honor the new home of the YC de Monaco. First it is possible to participate in the San Remo-Saint Tropez transfer regatta. www.yachtclubitaliano.it
HIM & HER
When: June 15
Type: White-sail coastal regatta
For whom: All vessels
Because: There are many regattas around Italy in which a crew consisting of a man and a woman participates in doubles: this one is organized by the Vela Club Termini Imerese (Palermo). Are you ready to rise above gender differences and get along with your partner to win?www.vcti.it
DOUBLE HANDED AROUND ELBA
When: June 28-29
Type: Coastal Regatta (45 miles)
For whom: All IRC and ORC tared boats
Because: The Double Handed Around Elba is a new regatta for double-handed crews that adds to the now packed calendar of events dedicated to those who don’t like easy sailing. But in this case, since it is still a complete tour of Elba Island (starting from Rio Marina), and therefore coastal sailing, it is an excellent “test” for those who decide to try their hand at this kind of competition for the first time. www.centrovelicoelbano.it
THE ROUTE OF THE CYCLOPS
When: June 27-29
Type: Long Regatta (140 miles)
For whom: All Orc tared boats over 9 meters
Because: The Cyclops Route is a pleasant novelty: departure from Vibo Marina, “slalom” through the Aeolian Islands (with passages at Stromboli and in the strait between Lipari and Vulcano) and return to Tropea, in a breathtaking setting. For the first time, Calabria is hosting a major event that is part of the Federvela Offshore Championship. www.eoliansailingweek.it
RAPALLO-TINO-RAPALLO
When: June 28-29
Type: Coastal Regatta (65 miles)
For whom: All boats tared ORC, IRC and Free Class.
Why: The regatta involves starting from Rapallo and finishing at Isolotto del Tino on Saturday, and the reverse route on Sunday. A route that touches the “coolest” places on the Ligurian Riviera, from the Gulf of Tigullio to the Cinque Terre, via Porto Venere. There are also reduced routes for boats up to 8 meters. www.circolonauticorapallo.it
