On dinghies, if there is something to be fixed at the masthead, it is done like this: by levering on the shrouds or simply putting pressure with one foot on the hull and then grasping the mast, you tilt the boat 90 degrees. Simple. Less simple if we are not talking about a 420 or 470, but an IMOCA 60: In this case, PRB skipper Vincent Riou took advantage of the tonnage test, which involves partially capsizing the boat, to do some maintenance upstairs, in a manner once so much more convenient than the traditional harnessed masthead ascent.
