The gold won at the Weymouth leg of the ISAF Sailing World Cup by Flavia Tartaglini on the RS:X led us to make a consideration: has this very strong Roman athlete born in 1985 (in force with the Fiamme Gialle), on the race courses for so many years (her first notable results date back to 2004), become tired of being considered the heir of Alessandra Sensini? A very heavy burden to carry (Alessandra, for whom we at GdV have deep admiration-she was also our Sailor of the Year-she is the most titled Italian sailor ever with four Olympic medals, two bronzes, one gold and one silver between Mistral and RS:X) that has been sewn onto her, but one that makes little sense, even more so today that Sensini has hung up her board.
FLAVIA IS THE PRESENT
Alessandra was Alessandra. Flavia is Flavia, she is the present: currently ranks third in the ISAF rankings, has won many World Cup stages in past years and together with Vittorio Bissaro and Silvia Sicouri represents Italy’s most concrete medal hopes at the Rio Games. So we launch an appeal: Just call it “heir of.” We recognize all her sporting value by simply calling her Flavia Tartaglini. Do you agree with us?
